For school community concerns:
- Bring the issue to your PAC meeting, and request your Executive to pass a motion under your bylaws. Once a motion is passed by your PAC, you can take actions like sending a letter to the VSB to give advice under section 8 (4) of the School Act.
- Do a public delegate presentation at the VSB: Link here If you have difficulties with the public delegation process, please connect with a DPAC Executive for assistance here: https://www.vancouverdpac.org/dpac-executives/
- Ask the VSB questions at the VSB Board meeting. The question form will be on the calendar for the Board Meeting here: https://www.vsb.bc.ca/page/5022/calendar?tab=monthview The question form is accessible on the online link prior to the meeting.
- You can contact the Director of Instruction and Trustee Liaison for your school community.
You can also request that DPAC assist with your school community concerns. Here are some options:
- Email the Executives and ask them to help you with your concern: https://www.vancouverdpac.org/dpac-executives/ – Under 2.01 (a) of our bylaws, Van DPAC’s role is to official represent the parents at the district level.
- You can request to make a presentation at a DPAC Executive meeting as a public delegate on an issue or suggestion. The DPAC Executives can vote on a motion as to whether to support your issue or suggestion.
- Your PAC can pass a motion asking the DPAC Executive to act on an issue. After a motion has been passed requesting the DPAC Executives to act, please send it to chair@vancouverdpac.org for circulation to the other Executives.
- If your school would like to bring an item to a DPAC General Meeting, and it’s not being supported by the DPAC Executives, then there’s an appeal process, which is to start a Petition to impel the DPAC Executives. You will need to:
- notify the DPAC Chair at chair@vancouverdpac.org as soon as the Petition has been commenced by your PAC so that notice can be circulated to the other Executives.
- obtain 10% of other PACs in the district (12 PACs) to endorse your Petition.
- You can join a DPAC working group here: https://www.vancouverdpac.org/dpac-groups/
