Join VSB’s Accessibility Advisory Panel
*****
The VSB’s Accessibility Committee is taking steps towards completing a three-year Accessibility Plan that addresses the needs identified by the VSB community, including students, staff, parents/caregivers and community members. Following the Accessibility Survey that was conducted in the spring of 2024, the committee is now looking to bring more VSB community members together to look at results from the survey and advise on the first draft of the plan. Please see the call-out below and the ‘Advancing Accessibility’ section of the VSB website for more information.
“We are inviting people with lived and learned accessibility experience to participate in an advisory panel to provide input on our three-year Accessibility Plan in support of the Accessible BC Act. We are looking for members who represent the diversity of Vancouver, including those who are Indigenous.
It’s important that this panel represent the diversity of the community we serve. We want to include diverse perspectives and experiences and will select volunteers to ensure representation of various disabilities.
We plan to convene the advisory panel in November and conclude this phase of our work by the end of January 2025. The advisory panel will meet four times, both in-person and virtually between November 2024 and January of 2025. There will be options to meet during the day and in the evening. Interested participants must commit to attending all sessions.
It’s important to us to that this panel represent the diversity of the community we serve. We want to include diverse perspectives and experiences and will select panel members to ensure representation. The panel will also include representatives of VSB staff with disabilities, students and their parents/guardians.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we work to ensure our schools and worksites are places where everyone feels welcome and supported. We’re talking about a world where diversity is celebrated, and accessibility is the norm.”
