Help Save Fleming Elementary’s Basketball Courts: Call for action by Feb 11th, 2025

$8.5 million.
That’s how much the Vancouver School Board (VSB) received from the lease of Fleming Elementary’s basketball courts to a developer for 99 years. Vittori Developments, a luxury apartment builder, plans to construct a mixed-use residential and commercial complex on the site.
Meanwhile, Fleming Elementary is operating at 107% capacity. The basketball courts, if preserved as public space, could have been used for much-needed portables or additional child care spaces in the rapidly growing 49th and Knight area of Vancouver.
The rezoning application is currently at the City for “Q & A” – this will likely be our only chance now as this rezoning application will likely never go to public hearing.
Vancouver DPAC stands with Fleming Elementary PAC in urging the City of Vancouver to stop the rezoning of the basketball courts.
Take action: Add your name to our letter to stop the rezoning here – due date February 11, 2025: https://www.vancouverdpac.org/fleming-play-area/
