I am proud to share that Vancouver DPAC’s Provincial Democracy Resolution (copy below) was passed at the 14 hour BCCPAC Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) with overwhelming support—91.85% in favour. This resolution calls for stronger accountability, openness, and fairness in how parent voices are represented across the province in schools and boards.
This achievement was the result of collaboration with DPACs and parent leaders across the province, showing what’s possible when we stand together. Special thanks to Renfrew Elementary PAC for giving us an extra Proxy, and to Anne Whitmore, DPAC Chair Surrey, and Nicola Baker, DPAC Chair (COPAC) who helped me advocate for this resolution at the EGM table.
The resolution is a step toward better governance. It serves as a clear message that parents are united in requesting fair and democratic processes in parent engagement practices for the benefit of all students.
I am looking forward to seeing what else we can accomplish together in the coming year !
In solidarity,
Melanie Cheng
Chair, Vancouver DPAC
